What Can Thermal Cameras Be Used For?

Your tool for everyday

A lot of people think thermal imaging can only be used by people in a trade or those that have a certified qualification in thermography. In this month’s blog, we’re here to show you, that’s not the case.

So how can you put it to use in your day to day life?

Summer

There’s nothing worse than taking a sip out of a warm fizzy drink or even a beer that you’ve been craving all day. With a thermal camera in your hand, you can find the coldest beverage in the fridge without having to go through the trouble of drinking a warm beer again.

You can also check if your sausages are cooked when you’re serving up the barbeque to all your friends and family; making checking the sausages even cooler than before.

Everyone these days loves a good photo, but these days everyone's pictures look the same. Add a unique point to your selfies by capturing a different light, infrared light to be exact. You can even take some cool photos of your pets too. Now your photos will stand out from the rest.

Autumn

Have you got children that love playing in the fallen leaves in the autumn? Now you can find them even easier with a FLIR infrared camera helping to detect their heat signature. Simply point your camera at the pile of leaves and win those games of hide and seek.

You can also use a thermographic camera to check your plumbing before winter hits; to ensure you are kept warm in those colder months. Getting rid of any worry you could have had about the radiators not working. Allowing you to be fully prepared.

Everyone loves bonfire night, how the sky is lit so beautifully by the colourful fireworks, but have you ever seen them through the lens of a thermal camera before? With the use of a FLIR infrared camera, you can see the hotspots in the sparks as the firework erupts as well as the exact moment the hot spots cool down, giving you some beautiful colours.

Winter

It’s not often that it snows here in the UK, but when the snow does fall we know that things like walking your digs can be a bit of a challenge when they get lost in the snow; especially when your dog is small. By equipping yourself with a thermal camera you can simply scan the area for any hot spots helping you to keep track of your pet in those hard to see conditions.

Just because the season's change and the weather begin to get colder, it doesn’t mean you have to be cold too. Winter is the best time for you to check all your windows are fully sealed and you have no cold air slipping in through any cracks. Get your thermal camera out and get your heating turned up, so you can check how much hot air is leaving your house and how much cold air is coming in, helping to make your home more energy-efficient.

Spring

Find all the animals hiding in your garden!

Think you have some birds nesting or a hedgehog burrowed away in the bushed of your garden? You can find those animals in an instant with a FLIR camera helping you to see exactly where the wildlife in your garden is hiding.

The third best event of the year after birthdays and Christmas is pancake day after all, who doesn’t love a fresh pancake with lemon and sugar on top, or maple syrup. Another thing that makes pancake say fun, is watching them as they cook in the frying pan. This is another great way that a FLIR thermal camera comes in handy as It allows you to watch your pancakes cook in real-time, letting them get to the perfect temperature.

All of the above scenarios are great for the inner thermographer inside of you. You don’t even need anything fancy to try any of them!
