Answering your questions regarding COVID-19

Throughout this extremely hard and challenging time, we want you to know that we are still here for you.

We have taken this time to answer some of the questions you have been asking us.

Are you still offering a thermal camera hire service?

Yes, we are still offering a hire service of our thermal imaging equipment. All of our cameras have been disinfected thoroughly before and after they have been on a hire. We are allowing 2 days for our cameras to be delivered to our customers due to the high demand for online delivery of other products and the strain couriers are currently undergoing.

I want to detect coronavirus, can you help?

Our thermal cameras are unable to detect or diagnose any sort of infection. However, the cameras can effectively measure the surface temperature of someone's skin, helping to identify people who have elevated temperatures.

If you identify an individual who has elevated body temperature, this might indicate them having an illness. If so, they must then be seen by a medical professional who will then diagnose the individual of any medical conditions.

If I am using thermal cameras to detect elevated temperatures, how do I do this?

If you are using your camera at screening locations you first need to set your camera up onto a tripod so you can safely measure temperatures from a safe distance. Once you have set up, you then need to screen people one at a time, to get an effective measurement you can measure the corner of someone's eye or their forehead as this gives the most accurate reading.

If you have detected an elevated body temperature on a person, you must then request they seen medical professionals for further testing.

Do I need to be a certified thermographer to test people?

Ideally, you should have a minimum qualification of level 1 certification.  You can book yourself onto a course by contacting a member of our team. However, if you are not qualified as a thermographer, as long as you have a basic understanding of thermal imaging you will be fine.

I see there is a new camera for measuring body temperature, what is it?

FLIR has recently released a new series of cameras (A400 & A700) and they are recommended for detecting elevated body temperatures. With a resolution of 320 x 240, this new series of cameras can detect temperatures from further away with higher accuracy than other models. It also can detect temperatures between -20°C to 2000°C so the possibilities are now endless.

Can I still purchase infrared cameras?

Our services are running as normal and we don’t plan for this to change. If you are looking at buying a camera for any reason we will be more than happy to help with that. Again, the delivery of your camera may take a bit longer than normal due to the growing demand of thermal equipment, helping to tackle the current emergency.

What camera should I purchase if I want to scan for COVID-19?

However, if you feel this camera may not be suitable for you we also recommend the below thermal equipment for temperature detection on individuals.
