UK Level 1 Certification Thermography Training

ITC Infrared Training CentreA 5-day ITC Certified course designed for new users of infrared thermal imaging cameras. The course provides a firm grounding in infrared principles and concepts, thermal measurement and analysis.

This program is designed for new users of infrared thermal imaging cameras. The course is equally appropriate for potential purchasers and new staff from existing installations requiring an in-depth review of measurement techniques and their practical applications. ITC offers certification training to PCN standards and is an accredited Authorised Training Organisation (ATO) for the British Institute of Non Destructive Testing (BINDT) as per the requirements of ISO 18436. BINDT is an accredited certification body offering personnel certification against criteria set out in International and European standards.

Objectives:

To provide a firm grounding in infrared principles and concepts; practical use of systems for thermal measurements and analysis; identify current practice and methods of application employed in major user industries.

The course covers the following subjects:

  • Introduction to Thermography:
    History; benchmarks; applications overview. Camera technology from scanning systems to FPA’s. Comparison between thermocouples, spot pyrometers and Thermal imagers.
  • Heat and Temperature:
    Heat and measurement; contact vs non-contact temperature measurement. How radiation is converted into temperature and an introduction to heat transfer.
  • Infrared Theory Basics:
    Scientific Laws: conduction, convection, radiation and blackbodies. Radiosity; transmittance and emittance. Emissivity, reflectivity and Calibration.
  • NDT Equipment and Practices:
    VB, IRT, AE & LM systems overview, Relative industrial & ISO standards.
  • Measurement Techniques:
    Atmospheric and Environmental considerations. Optimising measurement factors and system performance. System considerations.
  • Basic Heat Transfer Theory:
    Temperature definition and measurement, thermodynamics, heat and temperature, heat transfer, conductance, convection and radiation.
  • Camera / Software Familiarisation:
    Hands-on camera experience throughout the course. Camera practice using portable simulated labs; integration of images with Reporter software; creation of reports.
  • ITC Certification Test:
    ITC qualification (50 question multiple choice test) to be held on last day of course.
